An afternoon with Dr. Ömür Harmansah

Second Year Speaker Series

March 18, 2019

3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Location

Arab American Cultural Center (Stevenson Hall)

Address

Chicago, IL 60612

The ecological-military crisis in the Middle East h as pushed archaeologists away from traditional field methods and towards remote sensing and salvage operations. Dr. Harmansah's recent work investigates the implications of this notable shift on how the histories of human landscapes are written. For what audiences and in the service of which political agendas is archaeological knowledge produced? What does it mean to practice fieldwork in such a tense present and what new kinds of sensitivities are required for an archaeology of/in the Anthropocene?

Organized by our second year graduate students, the Second Year Speaker Series welcomes a number of guest lectures from across disciplines to share their work.
