Writing Groups on UIC’s Campus and in the Department

There are multiple resources on campus from Write In's at the Institute for the Humanities to WriteOn! at the Graduate College, and WriteOUs! in the Anthropology department. You must sign up for any of these writing groups.

The department's WriteoUs room is:

The WriteoUs Room will be running again this semester.

Here is a low down on what the WriteoUs Room is and how it will work:

  1. This is a quiet space where you can write, or work on quiet projects. There will be no outside interruptions, no talking/socializing or using phones within the room.
  2. You can sign up for a single 2 hour session or two 2 hour sessions in a row (4 hours) on the doodle poll.
  3. If you can’t make your session please cancel 24hours in advance on the doodle poll.
  4. Please try to arrive on time so that you are not disruptive to the other people in the session.

The main point of the room is to provide grad students with a very quiet working environment and to encourage people to block out time periods where they can focus on specific tasks without interruptions and distractions.

Please Please Please remember to lock the door and do not leave the room unattended!!!!! If the door is left unlocked we will also lose all privileges to the room.

Other classes are now being taught in the room so we are limited to certain dates and times. The room is available on Mondays 1pm-5pm, Wednesdays 1pm-5pm, and Thursdays 9am-11am. Please see the doodle poll link below to sign up for sessions. On Fridays the room is currently free. If you would like to book time in the room for activities such as communal grading, discussions, group projects, etc. To book the room, contact Kim Garza (kgarza4@uic.edu).
