About

Chiamaka J. Chukwuma is a Nigerian PhD student in archaeology. She has special interest in African archaeology, archaeometallurgy and cultural resource management. Her current research focuses in Africa, specifically Zambia and Nigeria with emphasis on how iron technology shaped and reflected the growth of their civilizations. She works under the mentorship of Dr. Foreman Bandama to explore questions around the scale, intensification, extensification, specialization cum spatialisation of metallurgy. She also explores current debates on social, political and economic roles of this technology at the aforementioned African societies. She is particularly interested in these significance and how their histories inform our understanding of heritage as well as contemporary life.
