I am currently writing my dissertation on agricultural dynamics and disaster in early colonial southern Peru. The project investigates the combined impacts on Spanish administrative and economic changes and the eruption of the volcano Huaynaputina on land use and organization in farming communities at the onset of the 17thcentury. Analytical methods include land surface analysis using historic aerial photographs and multispectral satellite imagery; archaeological survey and excavation; and geochemical analysis of agricultural soils. My research is funded by the Wenner-Gren Foundation, UIC, and the Field Museum.
