My research focuses on the built environment of East Asian cities in a neoliberal context of drastic urban spatial transformations. Based on political economy analysis, I explore how different groups of people, including migrant workers and old residents, work and live in the affective geographies of informal housing and redevelopment.
Another strand of my work explores literacy practices and language revitalization among ethnic groups in Southwest China, particularly their efforts to create writing systems and document their languages.
