The Charles A. Reed Award

Charles A. Reed was a founding professor of the Department of Anthropology at UIC and a pioneer in the area of zooarchaeology. The Charles A. Reed Award honors his outstanding achievements in field research. Al and Judy Blitz Archeology Scholarship Fund

Jennifer Blitz earned her BA and MA in Anthropology at UIC and her PhD at the University of Wisconsin (at Madison).  Dr. Blitz established the fellowship in 2012 in memory of her parents. Currently, one fellowship is given each year to an incoming, first-year archaeology graduate student in recognition of outstanding research that they completed during the summer.

Nasrin Mahani is a UIC Alumni. Born in pre-revolutionary Iran, Nasrin left during the Iran–Iraq War and arrived in the USA in 1984. She graduated with a BA in Anthropology in 2007 and that year a fund was established in her honor to help other women in the Anthropology Department. This award is given to an undergraduate student each year.
