About

I am a first year PhD student in Sociocultural Anthropology with a concentration in Museum & Exhibition Studies. I am interested in researching Postcolonial Theory of Afro-Mexican communities in Guerrero, Mexico’s Costa Chica region with Mario LaMothe as my mentor. I want to continue my undergraduate research on anti-oppressive practices through national identity. I plan to establish an understanding of how history shapes the current migration of Afro-Mexicans in connection to the status of citizenship. The results of my study will ideally provide a view to understanding education as a process of liberation involving dignity, dialogue, and dissent.
