Alum Dr. Soares Awarded Latin American Studies Association Best Dissertation in Social Science Award
Dr. Ana Morais Soares has been awarded the Best Dissertation in Social Science Award (Sergio Buarque de Holanda Prize) presented by the Brazil Section of the Latin American Studies Association. Dr. Soares, now an NEH Postdoctoral fellow in Digital Humanities at Vanderbilt University, earned a PhD from UIC Anthropology in 2022 for a dissertation titled "Surviving the Concrete Jungle: Indigenous Children in the Brazilian Amazon (1860-1910)" completed under Dr. Anna Roosevelt.
