Dr. Marisa Fontana (’07) Receives Teaching Award

Marisa Fontana, half-time Assistant Professor of Sociology, has been recognized as the recipient of North Central’s Distinguished Teaching Award for Half-Time Faculty due to her commitment to creating engaged learning for students.

Dr. Fontana began teaching at North Central in 2009, after receiving a Ph.D. in anthropology and archeology from UIC in 2007. Combining in class and out of class teaching, Fontana engages her students in accessible conversations to discuss challenging material. Her dedication to hands-on learning shows with her archaeology field school in Alabama and nearby engagements with the DuPage County Coroner. She has also helped students take on a new world-view, using anthropology and archaeology to challenge ethnocentric tendencies.
