The Anthropology Department offers two awards to majors for excellence and special achievement in the major: the Joshua J. Terry Memorial Scholarship and the Nasrin Mahani Scholarship. The Anthropology Department offers a third award to fund summer educational and research opportunities: the Waud Kracke Summer Opportunities Award.
Terry
The Terry award recognizes outstanding undergraduate Anthropology majors at UIC. It was endowed by Elizabeth English to honor her friend and fellow UIC Anthropology student Joshua Terry who sadly died in a car accident. Nominees are evaluated on several measures of academic excellence, including grades, classroom performance, and contributions in research.

Mahani
The Mahani award recognizes outstanding undergraduate Anthropology majors at UIC. Nasrin Mahani attended UIC from 2003-2007 and graduated with a major in anthropology. She and her husband, UIC Professor Emeritus Paul Goldstein, endowed this scholarship in 2009 specifically to assist women, minority students, students who are struggling financially, and returning students—among our many outstanding Anthropology majors.

Kracke
The Kracke award was endowed through a bequest of UIC Professor of Anthropology Waud Kracke, who joined the UIC faculty in 1970 and continued to work at the University for more than four decades. He is especially remembered as a dedicated and beloved teacher. Undergraduate Anthropology majors apply for this $1000 scholarship to support research and educational opportunities over the summer months.

Outside of the Anthropology Department, there are a number of incredibly helpful resources to assist you in finding an applying for funding opportunities, including UIC SnAP, Study Abroad, and the Office of External Fellowships.
SnAP
UIC SnAP is the university’s centralized scholarship list and application system. The database contains funding opportunities for current and continuin UIC students in all colleges and at all levels of study. you can log in to the UIC SnAP portal to review specific requirements of each scholarship. A general application must be submitted in the portal before addressing criteria specific to each scholarship. If you have qyestions about the scholarships or the application process, please contact the Student Financial Aid and Scholarships office at scholarshiphelp@uic.edu.
Study Abroad
The UIC Study Abroad office curates a list of internal and external funding opportunities to assist you in traveling and studying away from UIC.
OEF
The Office of External Fellowships (OEF) offers resources for UIC students to find and apply for funding opportunities outside of the UIC community. The OEF helps you explore a wide range of fellowship opportunities to determine which are best suited to your academic and career plans. Once you’ve found opportunities that are a good fit for you, they advise you closely through the whole process, so that your application is as strong as it can possibly be.
